The historic summer fair of Castello d'Argile, featuring gastronomy, stalls, and shows in Piazza Gadani
The July Fair is the most cherished summer event in Castello d'Argile, a town in the plain north of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna. It is a fair with deep roots, with the first records dating back to 1817: an event that has marked the town's summer for over two centuries and still attracts residents and visitors from the neighboring municipalities of the Reno Galliera Union.
The fair traditionally takes place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the third week of July. The heart of the event is Piazza A. Gadani, in the historic center of the town, which, along with adjacent streets like Via Matteotti, hosts stands, stalls, and stages. Admission is free.
The absolute protagonist is the local cuisine: the food and wine stands offer traditional Emilian specialties every evening, from first courses to hearty main dishes, including special events like the paella served on Sunday. Around the tables, the community gathers for outdoor dinners, in a village festival atmosphere that is the true spirit of the fair.
Along the fair route, there are numerous stalls and craftspeople, offering handicrafts, typical products, trinkets, and curiosities. It's an opportunity for an evening stroll among the stands, typical of the large summer fairs in the Bolognese plain.
Each evening features live music, DJ sets, shows, and entertainment, with themed evenings, dance performances, and animation that last until late at night. Bouncy castles and dedicated activities are set up for the little ones, making the July Fair an event suitable for the whole family.
Organized by the Pro Loco Erzen with the support of the Municipality of Castello d'Argile, the July Fair is much more than a simple commercial fair: it is a moment of identity for the community of the Province of Bologna, which rediscovers the pleasure of being together in the summer evenings in the square, with good food, music, and tradition.
The July Fair 2026 in Castello d'Argile will be held from Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19, as is tradition in the third week of the month. The event, registered in the official public fair calendar of the Emilia-Romagna Region, will animate Piazza A. Gadani and the town center with food and wine stands, stalls, craftspeople, bouncy castles for children, and evening shows.
Admission is free. The complete program for the three evenings, detailing shows, musical guests, and times, will be published by the Pro Loco Erzen in the weeks leading up to the event on the channels of the Municipality of Castello d'Argile.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by Pro Loco Erzen closer to the event.
