Advanced music masterclasses and concerts held throughout the village streets near Agrigento
From August 24th to 30th, 2026, the municipality of Joppolo Giancaxio—a small village of just over a thousand inhabitants perched about ten kilometers from Agrigento—hosts the first edition of the Summer Music Camp. For seven days, the squares, streets, and most picturesque corners of the town turn into classrooms, rehearsal rooms, and stages, welcoming professional musicians, conservatory students, families, and enthusiasts from across Italy and abroad.
The core of the event is an advanced musical masterclass with courses taught by nationally and internationally acclaimed professors. Announced instructors include Veronica Bigliani, Andrea Santarsiere, Federico Alba, Filippo Cangiamila, Matteo Leone, Paolo Miceli, Sergio Calì, Alessandro Cicchirillo, Domenico Cima, Gianluca Gagliardi, and Luigi D'Urso. Alongside instrumental lessons, there will be conferences and thematic meetings, including a focus on musical art in the technological and digital age, with some sessions also available remotely.
What makes this festival unique is the "Widespread Concerts" formula: itinerant performances that reach various corners of the town and even enter the homes of elderly and ill residents who are unable to leave, bringing music directly to those who cannot attend public venues. Evenings are enlivened by concerts featuring guest soloists, with collaborative pianist Veronica Bigliani supporting both students and faculty. The week culminates on Saturday, August 29th, with the concert of the "V. Bellini" Inter-municipal Band, conducted by Carmelo Mangione, Filippo Cangiamila, and students of the conducting course.
The Summer Music Camp is promoted by the "V. Bellini" Band Association of Agrigento, presided over by Raffaele Sacco and led by Maestro Carmelo Mangione, with artistic direction by Maestro Giuseppe Panepinto, an internationally renowned instrumentalist of Bivonese origin with strong ties to Joppolo. The initiative was created with the support of the Municipality of Joppolo Giancaxio, Mayor Domenico Migliara, Councilor Salvatore Capodicasa, and the City Council, who aimed to make this village in the province of Agrigento, Sicily, a landmark for musical education and culture.
All festival events and public performances are free and open to the public. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover a lesser-known village in the Agrigento territory, dominated by its ducal castle and the Mother Church of San Francesco di Paola, while being guided by music through its streets on warm late-August evenings.
