The contemporary art of Jeff Koons at Palazzo Bertamini Lucca
In the heart of Fiorenzuola d'Arda, along Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi in the province of Piacenza, the historic Palazzo Bertamini Lucca hosts one of the most anticipated contemporary art exhibitions in Emilia-Romagna: Balloons & Wonders, dedicated to Jeff Koons, the most famous living exponent of international neo-pop. His works, original and directly from the artist's studio, transform this small town in the Val d'Arda into an unmissable stop for art enthusiasts for a few months.
The exhibition route brings together Koons' most iconic works. The absolute protagonists are the sculptures from the Balloons series, made of Limoges porcelain: the very famous Balloon Dog (Blue), the Balloon Rabbit, and the Balloon Swan, ephemeral objects of pop culture transformed into eternal sculptures where playfulness and monumentality coexist. Alongside these are works from the Gazing Ball series, which reinterpret masterpieces of art history by incorporating cobalt blue glass spheres, and the Antiquity series, with their sails under the sun. The installation is enhanced by mirrored surfaces designed to more deeply involve the visitor in the experience of the artwork.
The exhibition takes place in the rooms of Palazzo Bertamini Lucca, an 18th-century residence built between 1724 and 1734 and rich in frescoes, located in the very center of Fiorenzuola d'Arda. The palace itself had already hosted the successful exhibition From Warhol to Banksy in 2022, also curated by Luca Bravo, confirming itself as one of the most vibrant centers for contemporary art in the Piacenza area.
The exhibition is curated by Luca Bravo and produced by Deodato Arte, in collaboration with the Municipality of Fiorenzuola d'Arda. The initiative represents a significant cultural investment for the Val d'Arda, with expected repercussions also on the tourism and economic levels of the territory. Jeff Koons, it should be noted, is the artist whose sculpture Rabbit was sold in 2019 by Christie's in New York for 91.1 million dollars, becoming the most expensive work ever auctioned by a living artist.
The exhibition is accompanied by a rich program of educational activities, guided tours, and initiatives designed for families, schools, and art enthusiasts. Guided tours are available by reservation.
