About Japan Days in Town

Japan Days in Town brings two days entirely dedicated to the culture of the Land of the Rising Sun to the Atlantico Live venue in Rome's EUR district. In the heart of Rome, you will find a large Japanese market, authentic street food (takoyaki, onigiri, mochi, dango), traditional art workshops like kintsugi, sashiko, and ikebana, Taiko drum performances, martial arts demonstrations, a cosplay contest, and plenty of activities for children. A lively and colorful festival, perfect for both true Japan enthusiasts and those discovering it for the first time.

The Land of the Rising Sun at Atlantico Live in Rome

Japan Days in Town is the city version of the capital's most beloved Japanese culture festival, hosted in the indoor spaces of Atlantico Live, the historic venue in Rome's EUR district. Born from the legacy of the Mercatino Giapponese (Japanese Market) that has enlivened the city since 2007, the event transforms the Viale dell'Oceano Atlantico venue into a small fragment of Japan for an entire weekend, with multiple dates throughout the year to satisfy the vast community of enthusiasts in the Lazio region.

A journey between tradition and pop culture

The heart of the event is the large market, featuring exhibitors from all over Italy: kimono and yukata, bonsai, ceramics, handicrafts, pop and kawaii gadgets, manga, and collectibles. Surrounding the market are various thematic areas that showcase Japan in all its nuances, from the ancient and ceremonial to the contemporary world of manga, anime, and video games.

  • Workshops and courses: origami, calligraphy (shodō), Zen painting, ikebana, bonsai, kokedama, kintsugi, and sashiko embroidery, along with introductions to the Japanese language.
  • Experiential paths: the Kimono Room to dress in traditional Japanese style, the tea ceremony with tastings, and "The Way of Sake".
  • Shows and demonstrations: Taiko drums, Kyōgen and Nō theater, martial arts exhibitions such as karate, kendō, and jujitsu, and live cooking with Japanese chefs.
  • Food area: matsuri-style street food with takoyaki, onigiri, gyōza, karaage, ramen, dango, mochi, and dorayaki, plus tastings of matcha, beer, and sake.
  • Activities for families and children: Japanese fishing games, vintage video games, board games like Go, face painting, and the famous Cosplay Contest.

An event for the whole family

Thanks to the affordable entry fee and the wide range of activities, Japan Days in Town is designed just as much for otaku and connoisseurs of Japanese traditions as it is for families with children and the curious. Its location in the EUR district, well-served by public transport and equipped with parking, makes it one of the most accessible Japanese cultural events in Rome and the entire Lazio region.
