The Italian enduro championship on the geothermal trails of Val di Cecina
Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina, a small town in the Province of Pisa nestled between the woods and the geothermal steam vents of the Tuscan hills, has transformed into the Italian capital of mountain bike enduro. Here, for the first time in Tuscany, the Italian Absolute E-Bike Champion title was awarded in an event that also combined a stage of the MTB Enduro Italian Cup and the fourth round of the Toscano Enduro Series.
The full course measures approximately 35 km with 1,500 meters of elevation gain, divided into five special stages plus a power stage reserved for e-bikes. The stages bear names that have become legendary in the local calendar: Infernacci, Capraferrata, Stregaia, Bruciano, and Aia dei Diavoli. The trails wind through coppice woods and steep slopes surrounding the town, offering fast sections, natural jumps, and steep descents that test the athletes' technique and physical endurance.
The event is organized by A.S.D. MTB Castelnuovo V.C. 2018, an association that has successfully built a nationally significant event starting from a community of enthusiasts. The race headquarters is set up in the municipal gardens Il Piazzone, which hosts the paddock area, license checks, the starting podium, and the awards ceremony, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire town.
Hosting an Absolute Italian Championship represents a prestigious recognition for Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina and the entire geothermal area of Tuscany, already known for the Toscano Enduro Series which often opens its season here. The event showcases a territory of great natural charm, consisting of trails immersed in nature, and confirms the vocation of Val di Cecina as a prime destination for mountain bike lovers. The edition that awarded the national title recorded the highest number of participants in the history of the Castelnuovo race.
From Friday to Sunday, the village lives to the rhythm of mountain biking: checks, official practice, the race, and awards ceremonies mark three intense days, accompanied by typical Tuscan hospitality and local traditional flavors, in a perfect blend of competitive sport and the discovery of an authentic corner of the Province of Pisa.
