International Woodcut Competition "Ugo Maffi – City of Lodi"

The "Ugo Maffi – City of Lodi" International Woodcut Competition is the event that celebrates the art of wood engraving in Lodi, the provincial capital in Lombardy. Born from an idea linked to the figure of the Lodi-based painter and woodcut artist Ugo Maffi, the competition is held in the spaces of Bipielle Arte, in Via Polenghi Lombardo, and is organized by the Rotary Club Adda Lodigiano, of which Maffi was a member.

An exhibition of artistic printmaking

The competition results in an exhibition that gathers woodcut works by Italian and international artists, selected and awarded by a jury. Woodcut, an ancient and refined technique that requires mastery and patience, finds an exceptional showcase here, capable of creating a dialogue between the tradition of engraving and contemporary graphic experimentation.

Memory and culture

Now in its several editions since its debut, the competition is a tribute to the figure of Ugo Maffi and, more generally, an act of valorization of Lodi's artistic heritage.
