The great rally race of the Parma Apennines, based in Bedonia
The International Rally of the Taro is the major motorsport event of the Parma Apennines, based in the Municipality of Bedonia, in the province of Parma (Emilia-Romagna). Born in the early eighties, it has grown to become one of the most important rally appointments in Northern Italy, capable of attracting over a hundred crews and thousands of enthusiasts along the roads of the Taro Valley every year.
The competition is valid as a round of the International Rally Cup (IRC), one of the most followed rally series on the national scene, and attracts top-level drivers at the wheel of modern Rally2 cars (Skoda Fabia RS, Toyota GR Yaris, and others). Organized by Scuderia San Michele, the rally is now a classic of the Italian motorsport early summer.
Bedonia is the hub of the entire event: cars start and finish here, and its historic center hosts the start operations, regrouping, and the celebration that accompanies the crews. The service park is set up in the industrial area of Borgo Val di Taro, while the special stages unfold on the surrounding roads, passing through hamlets and locations such as Tornolo, Folta, Montevacà, Tarsogno, and Albareto (site of the shakedown).
The course is famous among enthusiasts for its technicality and Apennine panoramas. The best-known stages are the long and selective "Folta" (over 21 km), considered the true test of the race, and "Montevacà", a challenging track that often decides the standings. Overall, the rally features several timed sections derived from the climbs and hairpin bends of the Taro Valley, for a total of over one hundred kilometers of special stages on a total route of approximately 400 km.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the Rally of the Taro is an event deeply rooted in the territory: for the race weekend, Bedonia and the villages of the Taro Valley come alive with crowds, fans, and curious onlookers, along the stages and in the town center. The event represents an important driver for the local economy and a moment of identity for the entire community of the upper Taro Valley, in a picturesque corner of the Apennines between Emilia, Liguria, and Tuscany.
The 32nd Rally Internazionale del Taro was held on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, 2026, based in Bedonia and valid as the second round of the International Rally Cup. 112 crews took the start, confirming the great participation tradition of the Parma event.
The program included the shakedown in Albareto on Saturday morning, the official start from Bedonia in the late afternoon, and an intense Sunday with repeated passes on the "Folta" and "Montevacà" stages. In total, 8 special stages for 110.14 timed kilometers over a total route of 406.94 km.
The victory went to Slovenian Bostjan Avbelj, partnered with Damijan Andrejka in a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, who dominated the race by winning all the special stages. On the podium were Simone Campedelli (Toyota GR Yaris Rally2) and Giuseppe Dipalma (Skoda Fabia RS Rally2). Skoda Fabia RS cars occupied nine of the top ten overall positions.
