About International Jazz Day Camerino

Every late April, Camerino celebrates the International Jazz Day, established by UNESCO, with a concert at the ABF "F. Corelli" Academy. It's the Camerino stop of the distributed festival by Musicamdo Jazz, which also brings great improvised music to Tolentino and Macerata on the same days. An intimate and high-level evening, designed to celebrate jazz as a language of dialogue and peace among peoples, in the heart of the Macerata hinterland.

Jazz as a Language of Peace in the Heart of the Marche

Every year, at the end of April, the university city of Camerino, in the province of Macerata, participates in the celebration of International Jazz Day, the International Jazz Day. The occasion was established by UNESCO in 2011 on the initiative of pianist Herbie Hancock and is celebrated worldwide on April 30th: the goal is to promote jazz as a universal language of dialogue, encounter, and exchange among cultures.

In Camerino, the direction is entrusted to Musicamdo Jazz, the Macerata-based association that has been animating the local jazz scene for years. The celebration is not limited to a single evening but takes the form of a distributed festival that, over three days, touches three cities in the province of Macerata: Camerino, Tolentino, and Macerata. The Camerino stop traditionally takes place at the ABF "F. Corelli" Academy, home of the city's music institute, in an intimate setting particularly suited for listening.

A Festival Uniting Three Cities

The common thread chosen by Musicamdo is jazz as a tool for peace and cultural exchange. Each evening of the festival features a different project, with distinct ensembles and repertoires, so that the most passionate audience can follow the entire journey by moving from one city to another. Camerino opens the cycle, followed by Tolentino and Macerata.

The concerts give space to both established musicians and young local talents, in line with Musicamdo's educational mission, which in Camerino historically collaborates with the University of Camerino (Unicam) and local musical organizations. It is no coincidence that Camerino hosts one of the most important Italian jazz competitions, the Premio Internazionale Massimo Urbani: the city has long been a reference point for jazz in the Marche hinterland.

An Audience-Friendly, Quality Evening

The Camerino concert is an intimate event, almost chamber-like, where the proximity between musicians and spectators enhances improvisation and sonic dialogue. Ticket prices are affordable, with reduced rates for students and members, confirming the desire to make jazz accessible to everyone, not an event for the few.

For those visiting the Marche in spring, the International Jazz Day in Camerino is a precious opportunity to discover an art city in the Macerata hinterland and combine the visit with an evening of high-level live music, in the spirit of a jazz tradition now rooted in the territory.
