About Incendio del Castello

The Incendio del Castello is one of the most anticipated events of the Molise Adriatic summer: every Ferragosto, Termoli reenacts the Ottoman assault of 1566, when the troops of Pialì Pasha attacked the city. At midnight, a grand fireworks display engulfs the walls of the Castello Svevo, simulating the fire, while in the afternoon a costume parade reenacts 16th-century Saracens and fishermen. The seafront comes alive with street food stands and music.

The memory of a siege

The Incendio del Castello is the historical reenactment with which Termoli, in the province of Campobasso, commemorates the Ottoman assault of 1566: in that year, the troops of the Turkish corsair Pialì Pasha attacked and devastated the Adriatic city. The event, held on Ferragosto, transforms the memory of that dramatic episode into one of the most beloved spectacles of the Molise summer.

The fireworks display

The highlight arrives at midnight, when an impressive fireworks display engulfs the walls of the Castello Svevo, a symbol of Termoli, simulating the burning of the ancient fortress. The light and fire show, admired by thousands of spectators on the seafront and from the beaches, is the culmination of the evening.

Costume parade and celebration on the seafront

In the afternoon, a costume parade reenacts the protagonists of the siege—16th-century Saracens and fishermen—bringing the historic center to life. The northern seafront is filled with street food stands and music, in a festive atmosphere that combines historical reenactment and entertainment. The event is part of the Summer Termolese program.

Incendio del Castello — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Incendio del Castello takes place on August 15 in Termoli: in the afternoon, a costume parade with 16th-century Saracens and fishermen, on the northern seafront stands of street food and music, and at midnight, the grand fireworks display engulfing the walls of the Castello Svevo, reenacting the Ottoman assault of 1566.

For Ferragosto 2026, Termoli renews the reenactment of the Ottoman assault of 1566. The day includes in the afternoon the costume parade with 16th-century Saracens and fishermen, the animation of the northern seafront with street food stands and music, and the grand finale at midnight with the fireworks display between the walls of the Castello Svevo.
