About Imola in Musica

For nine days, the historic center of Imola, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, transforms into a large, widespread stage. Imola in Musica is a completely free festival that has enlivened squares, courtyards, historic palaces, and gardens with over a hundred concerts since 1996: pop, rock, classical, opera, jazz, blues, folk, and world rhythms alternate from dawn till late at night. Awarded the EFFE Festival European label, it is one of the most beloved musical events in Emilia-Romagna.

A widespread festival in the historic center of Imola

Every late summer, the historic center of Imola, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, fills with music thanks to Imola in Musica, one of the longest-running and most beloved music festivals in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in 1996 and organized by the Municipality of Imola through the Service for Theaters and Musical Activities, the festival has grown to offer up to one hundred concerts in just a few days, all completely free of charge.

A city that becomes a stage

The formula that makes Imola in Musica special is that of a widespread festival: not a single large arena, but dozens of locations that come alive with music simultaneously. The city squares, the courtyards of historic palaces, the gardens, the cloisters, and the most evocative spaces of the city host the stages, creating a path that the public can discover by walking from one concert to another. From dawn until late at night, every corner holds a sonic surprise.

All genres, from classical to rock

Heterogeneity is the hallmark of the event. The program features a mix of light music, rock, pop, classical, opera, jazz, blues, folk, and ethnic rhythms from around the world. Alongside established big names, there is space for young artists and new talents, also thanks to the collaboration with entities like the MEI (Meeting of Independent Labels) of Faenza, which makes Imola in Musica a true window onto the Italian independent scene.

Not just concerts

  • Exhibitions and installations set up in the city center spaces
  • Guided tours to discover the city's heritage
  • Artistic performances of dance and painting
  • Street music with selected musicians animating the streets
  • Food and wine offerings with the flavors of the Imola area

European recognition

The quality and originality of the festival have earned it the EFFE Festival label, the mark that identifies the best festivals in Europe. A seal that places Imola in Musica among the reference musical events not only in Emilia-Romagna but in the entire European landscape.
