The black truffle fair in the medieval village of Frontino
In the heart of the Marche Apennines, perched at about 630 meters above sea level, the village of Frontino is one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Every year, in the first week of August, its cobbled streets and squares become the stage for Il Trionfo del Tartufo Nero, the event celebrating the prized black truffle from the hills of Montefeltro. It is an eagerly awaited event, capable of attracting thousands of visitors to a municipality with only a few hundred inhabitants, and which for over twenty years has become one of the symbols of the gastronomic tradition of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino.
The heart of the festival is, of course, the black truffle, the black gold of the table that grows in the woods surrounding the village. Along the historic center, you'll find food stands where you can taste traditional dishes enhanced by the intense aroma of the tuber, and stalls of local producers selling fresh, just-dug truffles, selected from the best of the harvest. Alongside the truffles, there are typical products from the Marche Apennines and local crafts, in a journey of flavors and scents that runs through the entire village.
In addition to gastronomy, Il Trionfo del Tartufo Nero offers musical and folklore shows that liven up the evenings, entertainment, and festive moments for all ages. Strolling among the colorful stalls, with the medieval backdrop of the village and the view of the Montefeltro mountains, is an integral part of the experience: an event that combines the pleasure of good food with the discovery of a place steeped in history and beauty.
The festival is also an opportunity to visit Frontino and its surroundings. Nearby are the Convento di Montefiorentino, the Museo del Pane (Bread Museum), and the Eremo di San Girolamo (Hermitage of San Girolamo), testaments to a centuries-old history. The event is organized by the Pro Loco di Frontino (Frontino Tourist Board), which has been curating this tradition for over twenty years with the typical passion of Apennine communities, making the black truffle an occasion for meeting and promoting the territory.
For 2026, Il Trionfo del Tartufo Nero returns to Frontino for its traditional event on the first weekend of August, August 1st and 2nd. The historic center of the village will host food stands with truffle-based dishes, producer stalls with freshly dug tubers, stands for typical products from the Marche Apennines, and local crafts.
As every year, the gastronomic part will be accompanied by musical and folklore shows and entertainment moments along the village streets. The detailed program, with the schedules and appointments for the two days, will be published by the Pro Loco di Frontino in the weeks preceding the event.
The dates for the 2026 edition are confirmed: August 1-2, 2026, in the historic center of Frontino.
The detailed program for the two days (hours of food stands, truffle market, musical and folklore shows) will be published by the Pro Loco di Frontino in the weeks preceding the event. Based on previous editions, the event includes:
