About Festa del Bostrengo

Every Ferragosto, Apecchio, a small village in the mountain hinterland of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, celebrates its most iconic dessert: the bostrengo. In the green of the Biscubio Park, for three days the community of Apecchio opens its kitchens and tells an ancient recipe, born from the need to waste nothing in times of poverty. Between tastings of De.C.O. bostrengo, typical local dishes, dances and games, the festival is one of the most beloved stops of the summer in the heart of the Marche's Montefeltro region.

The festival that tells Apecchio in a dessert

There is a dessert that in Apecchio, in the mountainous heart of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, is worth more than a thousand words: bostrengo. Every year, around Ferragosto, the town dedicates three days of celebration to it in the Biscubio Park, the municipal green area that comes alive with tables, aromas, and music. The Tradizionale Festa del Bostrengo is not just any sagra (food festival): it is the way this community in the Marche keeps the memory of its peasant cuisine alive and shares it with those who come up here, among the Apennine woods and the hills of Montefeltro.

Bostrengo, a poor dessert that became a symbol

Bostrengo is the classic "pantry-clearing dish": born from the need to throw nothing away. Stale bread, flour, walnuts, apples, dried figs, raisins, sugar, cornmeal, and orange zest are mixed into a dark, fragrant batter, slowly baked in the oven. In Apecchio, the recipe has been passed down for generations and has obtained the De.C.O. (Denominazione Comunale d'Origine - Municipal Designation of Origin), which protects its historic version: the Apecchio version preserves the original centuries-old batter, without modern additions. Tasting it during the festival means savoring an authentic piece of tradition, prepared according to the hands of the village grandmothers.

Three days of taste, dancing, and community

The event unfolds over three Ferragosto evenings. Alongside the absolute star, bostrengo, the food stalls offer typical dishes of Apecchio's tradition, in a journey of flavors that tells the identity of the territory. The evenings are accompanied by music and dancing, while games and entertainment moments involve families and children. The atmosphere is that of the genuine Marche village festivals: convivial, popular, unpretentious, where people sit side-by-side at tables and chat outdoors until late at night, enjoying the cool park air.

Apecchio, land of traditions and good food

The festival is also an opportunity to discover Apecchio and its territory. A village in the upper Metauro valley overlooking Monte Nerone, Apecchio is known for its food and wine vocation: besides bostrengo, it boasts other De.C.O. products such as the lamb coradella of Serravalle di Carda and the salmì del prete (priest's stew), and is famous as a small capital of artisanal mountain beer. A visit during the Festa del Bostrengo allows you to combine tasting the dessert with discovering an authentic corner of the inner Marche region.
