Il Trabocco Canta al Mare

A concert heard only from the sea

Il Trabocco Canta al Mare is a one-of-a-kind event held in Torino di Sangro, in the province of Chieti, along the famous Abruzzo Costa dei Trabocchi. The stage is the Punta Le Morge trabocco, an ancient wooden fishing machine extending over the Adriatic, owned by the municipality and managed by the Lu Travocche social promotion association.

The concept is as simple as it is evocative: the music is not aimed at the mainland but directed exclusively toward the open sea. For this reason, you can only attend the concert by arriving via water, mooring your vessel in front of the trabocco's arms reaching toward the horizon.

How to participate

The audience reaches the trabocco using any type of vessel: sailboats, motorboats, rowboats, as well as dinghies, canoes, kayaks, surfboards, and even pedal boats. During the performance, the area in front of the trabocco is closed to swimming, and the event takes place safely thanks to the collaboration with the Civil Protection and the Vasto Port Authority. Access from the beach is discouraged, as the music would be almost inaudible from land: the very essence of the event is the close dialogue between the trabocco and the Adriatic waters.

A rapidly growing tradition

Founded in 2023, the event has quickly become one of the most anticipated cultural highlights of the summer on the Costa dei Trabocchi. Each edition features a different artist or ensemble, ranging from singer-songwriters to tribute concerts, always in an intimate acoustic setting at sunset, starting in the early evening.

Torino di Sangro and the Costa dei Trabocchi

Torino di Sangro is an Abruzzo village overlooking a coastline repeatedly awarded the Blue Flag, where trabocchi dot the shore amidst cliffs, gravel beaches, and the Lecceta Nature Reserve. Beyond concerts, the Punta Le Morge trabocco hosts fishing demonstrations, educational activities, book presentations, and exhibitions throughout the year, serving as a small cultural outpost on the sea.
