About Il Mascherone
When the audience is the judge
Il Mascherone is the theatre competition in Piovene Rocchette, a municipality in Alto Vicentino in the province of Vicenza, which every year between January and February enlivens the Saturday evenings of the Municipal Auditorium. Five theatre companies compete, tasked with presenting brilliant and entertaining comedies, in Italian or in the Veneto dialect, with a minimum duration of one hour.
A jury of spectators
The formula that makes the competition special is the popular jury: the winner is not decided by a commission of experts, but by the audience present in the hall, through direct voting by spectators. The trophy up for grabs depicts the mascaron of the fountain in the historic centre of Piovene Rocchette, a symbol of the town, and the winning company also receives a paid engagement for the following cultural season.
Community theatre
Promoted by the Municipality of Piovene Rocchette, Il Mascherone is now a well-established event in the Auditorium's winter season, capable of uniting the passion for amateur Veneto theatre and the active participation of the public.
Il Mascherone — edition 2026
For the 2026 edition, Il Mascherone brought five theatre companies back to the stage of the Municipal Auditorium of Piovene Rocchette, with performances every Saturday evening from January 10 to February 7 and the awards ceremony on February 21. This year again, the winner was chosen by direct vote of the audience, who awarded the Mascherone trophy and the engagement for the following season.

Awards Ceremony
- February 21 — awards ceremony and proclamation of the winning company by the popular jury
Brilliant comedies in Italian or Veneto dialect, minimum duration 60 minutes. The audience in the hall forms the jury.
