Il Ciclone returns home, thirty years later

Back in 1996, the countryside of Laterina—now part of the municipality of Laterina Pergine Valdarno in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany—served as the backdrop for Il Ciclone, the comedy written, directed by, and starring Leonardo Pieraccioni, which became one of the greatest successes in Italian cinema history. Thirty years on, the Valdarno village pays tribute to the film that captured the collective imagination with a series of events held throughout the historic centre, scheduled from May 15th to 17th, 2026.

A village-wide celebration

The three-day programme weaves together cinema, music, memories, and conviviality. It kicks off on Friday, May 15th, at the Giardini Guinigi with the opening of the "Beer Cabin," followed by a free screening of the film at the Municipal Theatre at 9:15 PM (no booking required, subject to availability).

The highlight of the event is Saturday, May 16th: at 10:30 AM, a guided walk will take visitors to the famous "Gino's house," one of the film's most iconic locations, organised by the Fratres Laterina Association. In the afternoon, the Torre Guinigi and a new museum trail will open to the public; from 5:30 PM, Piazza della Repubblica will come alive with music, flamenco, and Spanish vibes, echoing the film's most memorable scenes.

Honorary citizenship for Pieraccioni

The most anticipated moment takes place late Saturday afternoon: at 6:00 PM, Leonardo Pieraccioni will be welcomed in the square by the Santa Cecilia Philharmonic and tributes from local schools, followed by the official ceremony where the municipal administration will grant him honorary citizenship. The evening continues with an aperitivo under the bell tower.

A finale for the little ones

The festivities conclude on Sunday, May 17th, with a space dedicated to children: at 4:30 PM, there will be a screening of the short film L'Odissea, created by the Arcobaleno nursery school, featuring Pieraccioni as the narrator. In the evening, at 6:30 PM, the "Beer Cabin" at the Giardini Guinigi will reopen.
