About I Suoni Armonici

Every spring, the "I Suoni Armonici" National Music Competition brings students and young musicians from across Italy to Ailano, a charming village in the upper Caserta region. Organized by the Pro Loco Ailano with the support of the local municipality, the event features categories for piano, strings, woodwinds, guitar, voice, percussion, chamber music, and school orchestras, fostering the passion and dedication of the next generation of musicians.

A competition dedicated to young musical talent

The "I Suoni Armonici" National Music Competition is one of the most established cultural events in Ailano, a small town in the upper Caserta region of Campania, nestled in the heart of the Matese territory. Created to promote and reward emerging musical talent, the competition attracts students and young instrumentalists from conservatories, music-focused high schools, and secondary schools across Italy every year.

Organizers

The event is organized by the Pro Loco Ailano with the patronage of the municipal administration. Over the years, the competition has grown steadily: the 7th edition in April 2025 saw a doubling of registrations compared to previous years, a testament to its status as a highly anticipated event for musical schools in the region and beyond.

Competition Categories

The regulations include numerous categories covering the entire spectrum of youth musical education:

  • Soloists for piano, guitar, strings, woodwinds (trumpet, trombone, saxophone), and percussion
  • Voice and voice-piano duos
  • Chamber music, from duos to ensembles
  • Jazz ensembles and brass quintets
  • School orchestras (three-year and two-year programs)
  • School-based wind bands

Jury and Artistic Direction

The competition has consistently featured a jury of distinguished masters and professors. The artistic direction of the early editions was supported by Maestro Nicola Hansalik Samale, an internationally renowned composer and conductor, while more recent editions have seen the Pro Loco presidency joined by professional directors and instrumentalists tasked with evaluating performances and awarding prizes.

A Spring Tradition

The event traditionally takes place in April and spans several days of auditions, culminating in the final awards ceremony. Among the most decorated schools are the "Galileo Galilei" Musical High School of Piedimonte Matese and various school orchestras from the Caserta area, highlighting the strong bond between the competition and the local educational landscape.

Ailano and the Matese Territory

Hosting a national music competition provides a small town like Ailano with significant visibility and cultural vitality. The event helps showcase the village and the entire Matese district, combining regional promotion with the encouragement of young people to pursue musical studies.

I Suoni Armonici — edition 2026

Following the success of the 7th edition in April 2025, Pro Loco Ailano is expected to host the "I Suoni Armonici" National Music Competition again in 2026, traditionally scheduled for April. As of now, the official call for entries and dates for the new edition have not yet been published; it is recommended to check for updates with the organizers.

The 2026 edition of the "I Suoni Armonici" National Music Competition does not yet have an official schedule. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to be held in Ailano during the month of April, featuring the usual categories for soloists, chamber music, ensembles, orchestras, and school-based wind bands. Information regarding the call for entries, registration, and dates will be released by Pro Loco Ailano.
