I Legnanesi are the most famous Lombard folk theatre company, born in Legnano and over time has become a cultural phenomenon capable of filling theatres across Italy. Their stop at the Cineteatro San Luigi in Concorezzo, in the Province of Monza and Brianza, with the show "I Promessi Sposi", is one of the most anticipated events of the town's theatre season.

The en travesti theatre of the courtyards

The hallmark of I Legnanesi is en travesti theatre: the female roles, starting with the legendary Teresa and her daughter Mabilia, are played by male actors, in a tradition rooted in the courtyard theatre of Lombardy. With dialect, lavish sets, ballets, and social satire, the shows affectionately and ironically portray the life of the Colombo family and, through it, the soul of the Lombard province.
