About Homage to Benedetti Michelangeli

In the heart of the Val di Peio, in Trentino, the Auditorium of the Terme di Pejo hosts a series of summer concerts as part of the international festival "Homage to the Piano Art of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli". This event brings world-renowned pianists to perform amidst the mountains of the Stelvio National Park in an intimate, free-admission setting. The Peio Fonti concerts are part of a wider program spanning numerous Trentino valleys, dedicated to the memory of the great pianist from Brescia.

An international festival among the peaks of Trentino

The "Homage to the Piano Art of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli" is an international piano festival that brings high-level concerts to the valleys of Trentino every summer. The festival is dedicated to the memory of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (1920-1995), one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, who shared a deep bond with these mountains. In Peio, within the Municipality of Peio (Province of Trento), the festival finds its home at the Auditorium of the Terme di Pejo in Peio Fonti, located inside the Stelvio National Park.

Concerts in Peio

The festival is organized by the "Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli" Documentation Centre and supported by the Tourist Boards of Val di Sole and Val di Peio, along with the municipalities involved. Each edition features a widespread program of approximately seventeen concerts, distributed between the Val di Peio, Val di Sole, Val di Rabbi, Val di Non, the Paganella Plateau, Vallagarina, and Alta Valsugana, between July and August.

The evenings in Peio are held in the Terme Auditorium, an intimate space with excellent acoustics, hosting prominent performers from the global concert scene. Over the years, the festival has brought legendary piano names to Trentino such as Grigory Sokolov, Elisabeth Leonskaja, and Joaquín Achúcarro, alongside emerging young talents from conservatories.

Free Admission

One of the distinctive features of the festival is its popular and accessible nature: almost all concerts are free of charge, with the aim of introducing the great piano repertoire to both residents and the many tourists who frequent the spas and trails of the Val di Peio during the summer. It is a rare opportunity to listen to great performers in an intimate and evocative alpine setting.

Why it is worth attending

Attending a festival concert in Peio means combining excellent musical culture with the beauty of the mountains. After a day of hiking in the Stelvio National Park or relaxing at the Terme di Pejo, the piano evenings offer a unique atmospheric finale in one of the most characteristic spa towns of western Trentino.
