The patronal feast of the village of Cancelliera, in Albano Laziale
In the village of Cancelliera, just outside Albano Laziale, in the heart of the Castelli Romani area of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio), the Holy Family of Nazareth Patronal Feast is one of the most heartfelt religious and community events of the year. It is a time when the entire village gathers around its Holy Family Parish Church on Via delle Pesche to celebrate the patron saints with faith, tradition, and joy.
The heart of the festival is the traditional procession, which every year accompanies the statue of the Holy Family along the streets of the village. The religious parade leaves the Parish Church on Via delle Pesche and winds through Vicolo I Maggio, Via I Maggio, Via dei Noccioli, Via della Torre, and Via Pantanelle, before returning to the church. Numerous faithful participate in the procession, which requires temporary traffic changes managed by the Albano Laziale Local Police.
Beyond its spiritual dimension, the feast is enriched by moments of conviviality that involve all generations: Holy Masses, food stalls featuring traditional Castelli Romani flavors, live music and DJ sets, dance school performances, traditional games, and open-air evenings that last until late at night. It is an opportunity to rediscover the spirit of a small community that, like many in the Castelli Romani, experiences the patronal feast as a collective identity ritual.
Cancelliera is one of the villages of Albano Laziale, a town set in the Alban Hills, overlooking the lake and rich in Roman and Christian history. The patronal feasts of these villages are a hallmark of Lazio's popular culture: moments where religious devotion, local gastronomy, and neighborhood social life merge into an authentic celebration, far from the main tourist circuits and deeply rooted in the local identity.
The 2026 edition was held on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, in the village of Cancelliera, Albano Laziale. The heart of the festival was the procession on Saturday, June 27, which started at 6:00 PM from the Holy Family Parish Church on Via delle Pesche.
The two days alternated between religious moments and popular festivities, with food stalls, live music, DJ sets, traditional games, and dance performances open to the entire community.
