Home games of the Ladin Furie at the Pranives Ice Stadium in Selva di Val Gardena
In the heart of the Dolomites, in Selva di Val Gardena/Wolkenstein in Gröden, in the province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige), Hockey Club Gherdëina matches are much more than just a sporting event: they are a ritual that marks the valley's winter. From September to April, the Pranives Ice Stadium hosts the home games of the "Furie," decked out in red, blue, and white, in front of a passionate crowd that regularly fills the 2,000-seat arena.
The club's origins date back to October 8, 1927, when the valley's first hockey association was founded. After various name changes and the merger between the Ortisei/Gardena and Selva-Wolkenstein clubs, the team adopted its current name, Hockey Club Gherdëina, in 2002, based in Selva. The team enjoyed its golden age between the 1960s and 1980s, winning four Italian Championship titles (1968-69, 1975-76, 1979-80, and 1980-81) and even hosting the Group B World Championships in 1981.
Today, Gherdëina competes in the Alps Hockey League, the cross-border championship bringing together Italian, Austrian, and Slovenian clubs, while simultaneously playing in the Italian Serie A. Home games are played at the Pranives, in the center of Selva, offering residents and tourists a unique opportunity to experience Dolomite winter sports in an intimate and lively setting.
Hockey in Selva is a popular passion that involves entire families: the club's youth sector boasts about a hundred athletes, a sign of the deep bond between the club and the territory. On game nights, the Pranives arena transforms into a meeting point where Ladins, South Tyroleans, and Val Gardena visitors rally around the team with chants, scarves, and drums. Its proximity to the town center and ski slopes makes the matches the perfect complement to a day on the snow.
Attending a Gherdëina game at the Pranives means immersing yourself in the valley's sporting identity. The facility also features a gym, a shooting range, and a pizzeria, and is located at Str. Nives 17, just a short walk from the main hotels and ski lifts of Selva di Val Gardena. The full match schedule, times, and subscription information are published on the club's official website.
The 2025-26 season will remain unforgettable for Val Gardena. Starting from eleventh place in the regular season and advancing through the qualification round, Hockey Club Gherdëina went on an extraordinary run in the playoffs: eliminating Red Bull Juniors (4-3), Zell am See (4-2), and finally HC Merano/Pircher, beaten 4-0 in the final series.
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, in front of 2,107 spectators at the Pranives Stadium in Selva, Gherdëina won Game 4 by 4-3, clinching the 2025-26 Alps Hockey League title. It is the first time a team coming from the qualification round has been crowned champion, and the club's first international trophy in 45 years. Under the guidance of coach Marcel Skokan and with goalkeeper Claes Endre among the stars, the "Furie" brought the title back to Italy.
