A story that becomes a spectacle
The Historical Re-enactment of the Peace between Crusaders and Trinitarians brings the atmosphere of the 16th century to Campobasso, the capital of Molise. The event re-enacts the Peace of 1587, celebrated by Father Gironimo da Sorbo, which ended the historic rivalry between two city confraternities: the Confraternity of Santa Maria della Croce (the Crusaders) and that of the Trinity (the Trinitarians).
The legend of Delicata and Fonzo
At the heart of the story is the famous legend of the two lovers belonging to opposing factions: Delicata Civerra, of the Crusaders, and Fonzo Mastrangelo, of the Trinitarians. Their story, marked by tensions between the two confraternities, according to tradition "opened the doors" to reconciliation between the two sides.
The historical pageant
The re-enactment unfolds with a grand costume pageant: flag-throwers, drummers, trumpeters, squires, and heralds on horseback travel through the historic districts of the city, converging in Piazza Prefettura. The event has been held in Campobasso since 1984 and is managed by the Association pro Crociati e Trinitari for Molise Historical Re-enactments, usually around the Corpus Domini period.

The Historical Re-enactment of the Peace between Crusaders and Trinitarians returns to Campobasso in 2026, continuing a tradition that has been renewed every year since 1984. As usual, the event takes place during the Corpus Domini period, when the city experiences its most characteristic weeks.
The historical costume pageant—featuring flag-throwers, drummers, trumpeters, and knights—will parade through the historic districts to Piazza Prefettura, re-enacting the Peace of 1587 between the two city confraternities.
