Two days of Risorgimento re-enactment with history, participants, and pageants
The Historical Re-enactment of the Battle of Calmasino of 1848 is an event that revives a page of the Italian Risorgimento in the hamlet of Calmasino, in Bardolino (Verona province, Veneto). The event commemorates the battle of May 29, 1848, fought during the First War of Independence.
On that day, Piedmontese troops (3rd Infantry and Bersaglieri Regiments) repelled the attack of an Austrian column led by General Zobel, which aimed to reinforce the fortress of Peschiera. The outcome was a partial Savoyard victory, which halted the Austrian advance towards the lake.
The re-enactment involves over one hundred participants in period uniforms, historical encampments, firing demonstrations with special effects, and pageants. The event, organized by the Municipality of Bardolino with the Calmasino Alpini Group and local cultural associations, combines historical dissemination, entertainment, and Risorgimento remembrance.
