Forenza Returns to the Middle Ages

The Historical Pageant "The Legend of the Templars" is one of the most evocative re-enactment events in Basilicata. It is held annually on August 16th in Forenza, a village in the Vulture-Alto Bradano region whose medieval layout serves as a natural backdrop for the reconstruction of events and characters dating back to the 1100s.

Ugo de' Pagani and the Birth of the Order

The common thread is the legend that links Forenza to the Order of the Knights Templar: the re-enactment, titled "Ugo dei Pagani and the Challenge of the Myth - A.D. 1118", recounts the departure of eight Norman knights led by Ugo de' Pagani towards Jerusalem, blending history and symbolic suggestion. Over two hundred participants in period costumes parade with banners, recitations, and spectacular performances.

From Pageant to Theatrical Dramatization

The pageant winds through the alleys of the historic center, converging in Piazza Regina Margherita, where a theatrical dramatization set between 1099 and 1118 takes place. The day concludes, in the best chivalric traditions, with a convivial moment of music and tasting of typical products from the Forenza area.

A Community Re-enactment

Organized by the Pro Loco Forenza, the event involves the entire town and attracts visitors from all over Basilicata and beyond. It is a fixed event of the Lucanian Ferragosto, in the Municipality of Forenza, in the Province of Potenza.
