A weekend dedicated to Japanese culture under the blooming cherry trees of Cascina Cuccagna
HANAMI - Japan at Cascina Cuccagna celebrates the Japanese tradition of hanami, the contemplation of cherry blossoms that marks the arrival of spring. The setting is Cascina Cuccagna (via Cuccagna 2/4, Calvairate-Romana district, Municipality 4, City of Milan, Lombardy), an ancient 18th-century farmhouse that has been restored and is now a vibrant cultural hub, where a cherry tree (sakura) in the courtyard becomes the symbol of the event.
The heart of the festival is the Japanese market curated by LeCarrousel, featuring a selection of artisans and designers offering ceramics, textiles, paper, and home goods. The experiential workshops are extensive: from shaping ceramic teacups using the kurinuki technique to origami, from sashiko embroidery to Japanese bookbinding, as well as traditional painting and polymer clay ramen miniatures. For the palate, Japanese street food and artisanal products animate both days.
Alongside the market and workshops, the program includes talks, book presentations, exhibitions, and tastings: from an introduction to and tasting of sake to discussions on manga, koji fermentation, and kimono symbolism. HANAMI is organized by Cascina Cuccagna together with LeCarrousel and Giappone TVB, and is aimed at a curious audience and all families, fostering a dialogue between Japanese culture and the convivial spirit of the Milanese farmhouse.
The second edition of HANAMI - Japan at Cascina Cuccagna was held on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM, in the spaces of Cascina Cuccagna in Milan. The festival celebrated the tradition of hanami with the courtyard's cherry tree as its symbol.
The Japanese market, curated by LeCarrousel and open both days, was the highlight, accompanied by numerous experiential workshops, street food by Ookini, talks, presentations, and tastings. Admission to the event was free, while workshops were paid.
