A day of trekking through the nature and flavors of the Monti Dauni
Green Day – Roseto in Trekking is the event that transforms Roseto Valfortore—a mountain village in the province of Foggia and one of Italy's most beautiful—into a hub for slow travel and local exploration every June 2nd. Created to showcase the landscapes, biodiversity, and culinary excellence of the Monti Dauni, the event attracts hikers, families, and nature lovers from across Puglia and beyond.
The heart of the event is an 11-kilometer hiking trail along the scenic paths of the Roseto territory. Starting from the meeting point at the Via Donatelli Info Point, participants climb through woods and ridges up to Monte Stillo (1,010 meters), offering breathtaking views of the Fortore valley. The pace is set for accessible trekking, designed to be enjoyed by families as well.
Green Day is more than just a hike: the route is punctuated by stops dedicated to local products and experiential activities. At the Villaggio Primavera, walkers can enjoy classic bread, olive oil, and tomatoes or bread, oil, and sugar, while demonstrations highlight local crafts and knowledge: olive oil production, beekeeping, truffle hunting, and the release of wild animals by the CRAS. It is a blend of nature and rural culture that turns every stop into a story of the land.
The day concludes with a communal lunch that gathers all participants around traditional Daunian dishes, from orecchiette with tomato sauce to sausage with potatoes and peppers. It is the moment when the fatigue of the hike turns into a shared celebration, reflecting the community spirit that drives the initiative.
Organized by the Municipality of Roseto Valfortore with the involvement of local associations, producers, and the Civil Protection, Green Day – Roseto in Trekking is a highlight of the local summer calendar and a must-attend for those who love nature, slow tourism, and the authentic discovery of inland Puglia.
The 2026 edition of Green Day – Roseto in Trekking confirmed the growing success of the event, attracting hikers, families, and nature enthusiasts. The day started at 8:00 AM at the Via Donatelli Info Point with registration and a hearty welcome breakfast, followed at 9:00 AM by the hike along the scenic trails of the territory up to Monte Stillo (1,010 m). Between gourmet stops, workshops on olive oil, beekeeping, and truffles, and a final communal lunch, the event celebrated the nature and traditions of the Monti Dauni in the province of Foggia.
Roseto Valfortore is located in the Monti Dauni, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached via the A16 motorway (Candela exit) or the SS90 state road; the reference train station is Foggia, from where you can continue by car. The meeting point is the Info Point on Via Donatelli.
Wear trekking shoes and comfortable clothing, and bring water and a hat. The 11 km route is suitable for families, but requires a basic level of fitness. Advance registration is recommended to organize breakfast, tastings, and lunch.
