The Falerno winemaking tradition in Casale di Carinola
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Grape Harvest Festival is the annual September event that revives the ancient rural traditions of Casale di Carinola, a small village in the municipality of Carinola, in the province of Caserta, in the heart of Campania. The village is located in the Ager Falernus territory, a land tied for centuries to the production of the famous Falerno del Massico, one of the most renowned wines since Roman times.
After a hiatus of about ten years, the event was brought back to life in 2024 thanks to the enthusiasm of a group of young people from the Viviamo Casale APS association. Since then, the festival has returned to transform the squares and alleys of the village into an open-air theater, where the memory of rural civilization meets the desire to come together and promote the local area.
The heart of the festival is the grape harvest re-enacted live: traditional grape stomping accompanied by folk songs and dances, followed by the tapping of the must. The program also features the spectacular Palio delle Botti barrel race, tug-of-war, and autumn trekking that leads visitors through the historic Falerno vineyards and local monuments.
Along the festival route, numerous food and wine stalls offer typical products of the Ager Falernus and, of course, wines from local wineries. Live music, folk groups, and educational sessions on the promotion of Falerno wine complete a program designed for all ages.
The Grape Harvest Festival in Casale di Carinola offers free admission and is now one of the most cherished events in the autumn calendar of the province of Caserta, successfully combining tourism promotion, the preservation of traditions, and social commitment. The festival has also integrated initiatives dedicated to civil issues, such as raising awareness against violence against women, confirming the deep bond between the village and its community.
The 2026 Grape Harvest Festival is expected to renew the appointment with the winemaking culture of Casale di Carinola, in the heart of the Ager Falernus, in the province of Caserta, this September. At the moment, the organization has not yet announced the official dates or the full program for the edition.
Following the success of previous years, a weekend featuring the re-enactment of the grape harvest, folk performances, Falerno wine tastings, and family activities in the squares of the village is expected. Information will be updated as soon as the Viviamo Casale APS association releases the schedule.
The festival takes place in the village of Casale di Carinola (ZIP 81030), in the municipality of Carinola, in the province of Caserta. Piazza Struffi is the main reference point for many activities.
By car, Carinola can be reached via the SS7 Appia road and the exits of the Caserta area; the nearest train stations and airports are located in the Caserta and Naples area. The village is just a few kilometers from the Domitian Coast.
Free admission. Food and drinks at the stalls are available for purchase.
