Two days of Gothic culture, esotericism, and fantasy in the capital
Gotika Festival Rome was created to provide a permanent space in the capital for Gothic culture in its broadest sense: dark aesthetics, esoteric imagery, fantasy literature and art, alternative fashion, and artisanal research. In just a few years, it has become a reference point for the alternative scene in Rome and the Lazio region, attracting visitors from neighboring provinces with a formula that blends a market, workshops, and live entertainment.
The heart of the event is the large themed market hosted in a fully covered pavilion: stalls featuring independent artisans and creators offer handmade jewelry, accessories, dark-inspired home decor, black and goth clothing, as well as books and illustrations from the alternative scene. It is the perfect opportunity to discover artisanal realities rarely seen in traditional commercial circuits and to speak directly with the creators.
A specific area of the festival is reserved for themed workshops and experiential labs: sessions on vampire legends, the symbolic use of herbs, esoteric practices, and magical traditions, alongside spaces dedicated to readings and divination. The approach is educational and participatory, offering short sessions open even to those new to these themes, led by practitioners and scholars who regularly attend the event.
The two days are punctuated by dark, punk, and Gothic fashion shows, artistic performances, and burlesque and dance acts. The final runway show is traditionally open to the public, allowing attendees to showcase their own outfits: it is one of the most popular moments of the entire festival. The musical program features live concerts and DJ sets focused on goth, darkwave, and post-punk, with the Saturday night event continuing until late.
The main venue is Fusolab, a cultural center and community space on Viale della Bella Villa, in the eastern part of Rome, in the Alessandrino-Casilino area. Over the years, the festival has changed locations several times: the 2025 winter edition was held at the Città dell'Altra Economia, in the former Mattatoio of Testaccio, while in summer, the event offers an outdoor Summer Edition on the rooftop of the Casilino Sky Park, always in collaboration with Fusolab.
Beyond the program, Gotika Festival functions primarily as a meeting point: participants often arrive in costume, paying great attention to their attire, and the event is designed as a moment of connection between artists, artisans, musicians, and fans. The atmosphere is welcoming and far from elitist, providing an informal context where families and curious newcomers can easily find their way.
The main event now takes place in spring, between February and March, while the summer edition enlivens the evenings in June. Given the indoor format, the winter event takes place regularly even in case of bad weather.
For 2026, Gotika Festival returned to the Fusolab on Viale della Bella Villa in Rome with a two-day format: Saturday, March 21, from 3:00 PM to midnight and Sunday, March 22, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The fully covered pavilion hosted the themed market with crafts, objects, black and goth clothing, accessories, books, and illustrations.
Saturday was focused on music and the night, featuring a shibari performance, a Nightwish tribute, and goth/darkwave DJ sets. Sunday gave more space to workshops and entertainment, with sessions on white and black magic, the Murmur dance performance, burlesque shows, and the final fashion show open to the public, for both men and women.
Alongside the main program, themed workshops were held—covering everything from vampire legends to magical herbs, necromancy, and spirit communication—alongside the divination and reading areas that have become a staple of the event.
Fusolab is located at Viale della Bella Villa 94/96, in the eastern quadrant of Rome. The most convenient stop is Alessandrino on Metro C; the area is also served by several urban bus lines. Those arriving by car can find parking in the Casilino Sky Park area, nearby.
Admission to the event is affordable (around 7 euros), plus a 3-euro Fusolab membership card, which is valid for the entire year. Some workshops may require an additional fee.
A dress code is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged: a large part of the audience participates in dark or Gothic attire. Those who wish to walk in the final fashion show can sign up directly on-site. For updated information, you can write to [email protected] or contact the organizers via WhatsApp.
