The "Games without Frontiers" of the Gorizia and Nova Gorica neighborhoods
There is a border that, in Gorizia, has become a playground. The GO! Games revive the spirit of the legendary television "Games without Frontiers" and transform it into a day of challenges between the neighborhoods of Gorizia, Nova Gorica, and Šempeter-Vrtojba: three municipalities, two countries, one great community celebration. Born as a legacy of Gorizia and Nova Gorica European Capital of Culture 2025, the event is organized by the Municipality of Gorizia.
The venue for the games is the Parco della Valletta del Corno, affectionately nicknamed the "Central Park" of Gorizia: a large green space in the heart of the city that for one day is filled with teams, gazebos, cheering, and joy. The neighborhood teams, recognizable by their colors, compete in skill tests, obstacle courses, and group games designed to involve people of all ages.
The day is divided into two parts. The morning is dedicated to the younger generation with the GO! Games School, featuring children from the schools of the three cities. The afternoon is for adults, with neighborhood competitions, a surprise treasure hunt, and even a fun challenge between the mayors, a true moment of spectacle and friendship between the communities.
The GO! Games are more than just a competition: they are a concrete way to keep alive every year the spirit of a unique city, divided for decades by a border and today united by games, sports, and collaboration between Italy and Slovenia.
The third edition of the GO! Games takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Gorizia's "Central Park", the Parco della Valletta del Corno. Competing are 13 neighborhood teams from the three cross-border municipalities of Gorizia, Nova Gorica, and Šempeter-Vrtojba. The morning is dedicated to the GO! Games School, with about one hundred 10-11 year old children from the schools of the three cities; the afternoon to adult competitions, with skill tests and a surprise treasure hunt. At 3 PM, the fun challenge between the mayors, in full "Games without Frontiers" style.
