About Barcolana by Night
Sailing under the stars in the heart of Trieste
Among the many events that make up the week of the Barcolana, the Barcolana by Night is perhaps the most visually stunning. It takes place after sunset in the San Giusto basin, the body of water in front of the Molo Audace and Piazza Unità d'Italia, with the city lights reflecting on the water and boats racing in the dark.
The featured classes
Unlike the main Autumn Cup open to thousands of boats, Barcolana by Night is reserved for one-design boats – including UFO28, Meteor, and Melges 24 – which race in a confined area, very close to the shore. This makes the competition particularly enjoyable for the public: thousands of spectators follow the maneuvers directly from the quays and piers, just a few meters from the competitors.

Barcolana by Night is part of the rich collateral program of the Barcolana organized by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano and represents one of the most anticipated events leading up to the main race, capable of drawing enthusiasts and curious onlookers to Trieste on the evening before the queen regatta.

As part of Barcolana 58, Barcolana by Night 2026 lights up the evening of Saturday, October 10th: in the San Giusto basin, in front of Molo Audace, the one-design boats race under the stars just a few meters from the crowded quays. It's one of the most spectacular events leading up to the Autumn Cup on Sunday, October 11th.
