The summer gnocchi festival in the village of Civitella d'Agliano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Gnocchi Festival is the summer highlight that brings the village of Civitella d'Agliano to life each yearโa small, hilltop town in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio. For several evenings in July, the streets and squares of the historic center fill with long tables, the aromas of home cooking, and music, drawing locals and visitors from across Tuscia and nearby Umbria.
The undisputed star of the festival is the gnocchi, served in abundance and in every sauce by the food stands run by Pro Loco volunteers. From the classic fresh tomato sauce to richer, more savory options, the gnocchi are prepared according to traditional Lazio farming recipes and served hot in a warm, convivial atmosphere. Alongside the signature dish, the festival often offers other local popular specialties, homemade desserts, and local wines.
Civitella d'Agliano is known as one of the capitals of Grechetto, the white grape variety that defines the wine production of this hilly area just a stone's throw from the Umbrian border. It is no coincidence that the town also hosts the "Nelle Terre del Grechetto" event in the summer, dedicated to local wineries. The Gnocchi Festival is part of this food and wine tradition, offering the perfect opportunity to pair local dishes with a fine glass of regional wine.
Beyond the food, the festival thrives on live music and evening entertainment: the nights come alive with bands, dance orchestras, and performances that delight both young and old. It captures the authentic atmosphere of a village festival, where the medieval historic center provides the perfect backdrop for an event that strengthens community bonds and warmly welcomes visitors.
The festival is also an excellent excuse to visit Civitella d'Agliano, a medieval village overlooking the Tiber Valley, with its characteristic urban layout, stone alleys, and panoramic views of the Viterbo Tuscia countryside. Those attending the Gnocchi Festival will find, in a single evening, great food, wine, music, and the chance to explore one of the most charming villages in Lazio.
The 2026 edition of the Gnocchi Festival in Civitella d'Agliano does not yet have confirmed official dates. As per tradition, the festival is expected to take place in July, with gnocchi served in every sauce at the Pro Loco stands and live music evenings in the historic center. As soon as the program is published, this page will be updated with dates, times, and details.
Civitella d'Agliano is located in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio, near the border with Umbria. By car, it can be reached from the A1 motorway (Orvieto exit), then continuing along the provincial roads of the Tiber Valley. The nearest train station is Orvieto, on the Rome-Florence line, from where you can continue by car.
The festival takes place in the village's historic center, with free admission. Dishes and drinks can be purchased directly at the food stands managed by the Pro Loco. We recommend checking the updated dates and program on the Pro Loco Civitella d'Agliano social media channels before traveling.
