About Giove Folklore Festival

Every July, Giove, a village in the province of Terni, hosts the International Folklore Festival: a week of traditional dances, music, and costumes with folk groups from all over the world. Featuring historical pageants, the candle ceremony, flag wavers, taverns with local dishes, and evening shows, the festival transforms the historic centre into a crossroads of cultures and popular traditions.

World Traditions in Giove

The Giove International Folklore Festival is one of the most characteristic summer events in the province of Terni. For a week in July, the village of Giove welcomes international folk groupsโ€”over the years from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, India, China, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Taiwan, and various Italian regionsโ€”who bring dances, music, and costumes from their lands to the main square.

Between Folklore and Historical Re-enactment

The festival, organized by the Associazione Corteo Storico di Giove (Giove Historical Pageant Association), intertwines folklore with historical re-enactment. Among the unmissable events are the candle ceremony, the costumed historical pageant, and performances by flag wavers and musicians, which revive the atmosphere of the medieval village.

A Festival for Everyone

Evenings are enlivened by taverns serving local dishes, wine bars, and snacks, in addition to shows by the guest groups. The Folklore Festival is thus an occasion for cultural exchange and a great community celebration, capable of enhancing Giove's identity and the popular traditions of the Umbria Region, opening them up to global dialogue.
