The walk among the blooming broom on the Vernasca hills
Every year, at the beginning of summer, the hills surrounding Vernasca, a small municipality in the Province of Piacenza in Emilia-Romagna, light up in yellow thanks to the blooming of the broom. It is in this setting that Ginestrail was born, the nature walk conceived and organized by the association Arda Trek to discover, step by step, one of the most authentic corners of the Piacenza Val d'Arda.
The itinerary covers approximately 10 kilometers in total (five out and five back), starting from the Vernasca cemetery car park. The trail crosses broom woods and panoramic ridges, reaching Monte La Ciocca, the highest point of the walk, located halfway between Vigoleno Castle and Castell'Arquato. The walk takes place in the heart of the Stirone and Piacenziano Regional Park, a protected area known for its naturalistic and geological value. The difficulty is moderate: a route suitable for families and occasional walkers, immersed in a few kilometers of blooming paradise.
Ginestrail is not just a walk: three refreshment points, managed by local associations from Vernasca, are set up along the route, where participants can refuel and socialize. Live music performances accompany the day, making the walk a widespread celebration among the woods and trails of the Piacenza hills.
The initiative is part of a weekend of events that the Municipality of Vernasca dedicates to its territory, alongside Ginestrail, also the evocative evening walk of the Notte dei Briganti. More than a simple excursion, Ginestrail is an opportunity to experience the landscape, enhance the trails of the Val d'Arda, and strengthen the bond between residents, hikers, and visitors. Participation is free and open to all, with no need for registration.
The second edition of Ginestrail returns to Vernasca on Sunday, June 14, 2026, after being postponed due to bad weather from the original date of June 2. The meeting point is at 6:00 PM at the Vernasca cemetery car park, from where the approximately 10-kilometer walk begins through the blooming broom woods to Monte La Ciocca, within the Stirone and Piacenziano Regional Park.
Along the route, three refreshment points are set up, and numerous live music performances will be held, featuring the bands Musetta and Tuculianti. Participation is free and open to all, with no registration required.
