The great indie party under the stars of Montefiascone, on Lake Bolsena
The Giglio Summer Festival is the summer series that brings Montefiascone to life, a town in the province of Viterbo overlooking Lake Bolsena, in the heart of the Lazio Tuscia. Born as a hub for open-air evenings, the festival provides a stage that hosts concerts, DJ sets, and musical formats during the warmer months, capable of attracting a wide audience, especially young people, from the lakeside towns and the entire Lazio Region.
The event that brought fame to the series is Indie Power, the touring format that travels through clubs, town squares, and festivals across the peninsula, breaking attendance records. It is not a traditional concert: the formula focuses entirely on audience engagement, where the crowd becomes the protagonist, singing along from the beginning to the end of the night. For this reason, Indie Power is described as a giant karaoke concert under the stars.
The setlist draws from the repertoire that defined Italian indie music over the last decade — tracks by Calcutta, Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, Gazzelle, and Coez — alternating with great international alternative classics. It is a selection designed so that no one stays still: those who know the lyrics by heart sing along, and those who don't learn them in real-time.
Those who arrive for the music find much more. Montefiascone is famous throughout Italy for its Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone wine, a white DOC linked to the legend of Bishop Johannes Defuk and his servant, who was tasked with marking the inns where the wine was good with the word "Est": in front of the wine of Montefiascone, the word was repeated three times. The village is dominated by the Rocca dei Papi, which offers one of the most beautiful views of Lake Bolsena, and houses the Basilica of San Flaviano, an extraordinary building with two superimposed churches.
The Giglio Summer Festival is part of a particularly busy summer season for the Municipality of Montefiascone, which distributes concerts, reviews, film screenings, street food, and events dedicated to local traditions across squares, streets, and panoramic viewpoints throughout June, July, and August. Those planning a weekend on Lake Bolsena can easily combine the musical evening with a day at the lake, a visit to local wineries, and a tour of nearby villages — Bolsena, Marta, Capodimonte, Gradoli — all reachable in just a few minutes by car.
The free formula and late-night schedule make the festival ideal for a young audience and groups of friends, yet the atmosphere remains the convivial and familiar one of summer village festivals. It is a simple and direct opportunity to experience a summer night in Tuscia, without tickets or formalities.
The 2026 edition of the Giglio Summer Festival in Montefiascone (province of Viterbo, Lazio) featured one of the most requested events of the Italian summer: Indie Power, the touring format that is breaking records in clubs and festivals across the peninsula.
The evening of Friday, June 19, 2026, kicked off the weekend with a simple and overwhelming formula: no barriers between the stage and the audience, everyone singing along to the tracks that have defined Italian indie music in recent years. A true open-air karaoke concert, in one of the most evocative settings of Lake Bolsena.
The choice of free admission, championed by the organizers, aimed to ensure maximum participation and to gift the territory a night of great community spirit.
