A day among vineyards, ecological corridors, and honey-producing crops in the Monferrato Astigiano
There are parks and gardens that usually remain closed to the public or reserved for private guests. For one day, the Giardini Svelati initiative opens them to everyone: in Mombaruzzo, a town in the province of Asti, the Piana Armando Winery — located at Via Torino 2, in the Casalotto district — welcomes visitors to its Eco Park for a day dedicated to nature, biodiversity, and Monferrato wine.
"Giardini Svelati" is promoted by Agriturist Alessandria and Asti, the Confagricoltura association for green tourism. The event is inspired by the international festival held simultaneously in over twenty European countries, in line with the French "Rendez-vous aux jardins" initiative. The goal is to invite the public to discover the historical, artistic, and botanical richness of private green spaces while spreading a message of environmental stewardship as a common heritage. Throughout the weekend, several estates between the provinces of Alessandria and Asti open their gates, tree-lined avenues, outdoor areas, and shaded lawns.
At Piana Armando, the highlight of the day is a walk through a charming Eco Park, where honey-producing crops — designed to nourish bees and pollinators — alternate with accessible ecological corridors between the vineyards. It is an easy path suitable for everyone, which concretely illustrates the role of the farm in preserving the hilly landscape of the Monferrato Astigiano. The winery, managed by the Piana family, uses both traditional methods and modern technology to vinify exclusively its own grapes, creating wines typical of the territory.
To complete the visit, wine tastings are available for purchase directly in the cellar or outdoors. Visitors can also discover other experiences offered by Piana Armando throughout the year, from picnics in the vineyard to the traditional merenda sinoira, as well as harvest tourism and truffle hunting.
The Mombaruzzo stop is part of a broader program involving historic villas, wine estates, and parks in the area: from Tenuta La Marchesa in Novi Ligure with its Italian-style garden, to the Castello di Piovera with its organic park, and Poggio Le Coste in Asti. A map of places that, for one weekend, collectively showcase the green identity of south-eastern Piedmont.
