Tours and shows among the seventy ghosts of Maccastorna Castle
The Ghost Festival originates from the most famous legend of Maccastorna, a small village in the Lodi area: the one that claims its castle is inhabited by seventy ghosts. The story dates back to a bloody event in 1406 when, according to tradition, Carlo Cavalcabรฒ and his brothers were massacred in the castle by Cabrino Fondulo, who wished to become lord of Cremona.
The event features guided tours and themed theatrical performances that wind through the village streets and near the castle. Actors and storytellers guide visitors on a journey through history and atmosphere, where ancient legends come to life in the dim light of summer evenings, offering an experience that is as cultural as it is exciting.
The Castle of Maccastorna is a manor of great charm, also cited as a film location and a destination for mystery enthusiasts. The Ghost Festival offers a rare opportunity to get close to this monument and discover its historical and legendary events, in a combination that has made the small village famous far beyond the borders of the Lodi area.
Organized by local associations with the support of the Municipality of Maccastorna, the Ghost Festival has become the most anticipated summer event in the village. An original and engaging way to enhance the historical and narrative heritage of the village, attracting curious visitors and enthusiasts from all over the province of Lodi and beyond.
In the summer of 2026, Maccastorna Castle will once again host the Ghost Festival, the event that brings to life the legend of the seventy ghosts of the manor. As tradition dictates, the festival takes place in July with guided tours and themed theatrical performances along the village streets and near the castle. The exact dates and detailed program will be announced by the organizers (Maccastorna Eventi) on their social media channels closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published on the Maccastorna Eventi channels closer to the event. Based on previous editions, the festival includes:
