The Basilicata jazz festival by Onyx Jazz Club
Gezziamoci is much more than a music festival: it is a decades-long story that has made Matera and Basilicata a benchmark for Italian jazz. Conceived and organized by the Onyx Jazz Club of Matera — an association founded in 1985 — the event has been bringing some of the most prestigious performers on the jazz scene to the City of Sassi for almost forty years, in a constant search for new musical expressions.
The festival is not concentrated in a few days: it unfolds throughout the year, with cultural workshops, conferences, and initiatives, intensifying in the summer phase. In addition to Matera, Gezziamoci touches several Lucanian municipalities, transforming into a widespread festival that enhances the inland areas of the region. The main venue for summer evening concerts is the evocative Giardino dell'Hotel del Campo.
What distinguishes Gezziamoci is its idea of cultural welfare: music as a tool for individual well-being, social inclusion, and sustainability. Initiatives such as the 'Suspended Ticket' allow a concert to be offered to those who could not afford it, while the 'Attaccati al Bus' service encourages sustainable mobility to the venues. Alongside the concerts, the program includes workshops for children, tastings, listening guides, DJ sets, and sound treks.
Listening to jazz in Matera, under the starry sky of the Giardino dell'Hotel del Campo or in cultural venues like Casa Cava, is an experience that blends sophisticated music with the local identity. For enthusiasts, Gezziamoci is an unmissable event of the Lucanian summer.
The 39th edition of Gezziamoci unfolds throughout 2026. The inauguration took place on January 16th at Casa Cava with the PolìCroma Ensemble and Pasquale Mega, dedicated to the African-American theme. The season includes cultural workshops and conferences (including 'Cultural Prescription' on March 6th).
The summer phase kicks off on July 29th in Aliano with the final of the 5th edition of the Gezziamoci Contest – Alessandro Cilla Award, reserved for jazz musicians under 35. From August 27th to 31st, evening concerts return to Matera, at the Giardino dell'Hotel del Campo. The themes of the edition: solidarity, inclusion, and sustainability.
The complete program with times and further artists will be published on the Onyx Jazz Club website in the weeks preceding the event.
Matera is reachable by car from the SS7 and by the FAL railway from Bari. During the festival, the free shuttle service 'Attaccati al Bus' runs to the concert venues.
