The festival of the earth and the Po River between Gualtieri and Guastalla
Georgica is the Festival of the Earth, Waters, and Field Work: a major spring event held on the Po riverbanks, between the Municipalities of Gualtieri and Guastalla, in the province of Reggio Emilia (Emilia-Romagna). Founded in 2015, the event has become a benchmark over the years for those who love quality agriculture, the rural traditions of the Bassa Reggiana, and the landscape of the Great River.
The heart of Georgica is a widespread market exhibition with over 200 selected exhibitors, spread along the banks of the Po at Lido Po. It is an event that unites multiple territories: in addition to Gualtieri and Guastalla, the festival involves the neighboring Municipalities of Boretto, Brescello, and Luzzara, and extends beyond the river towards Pomponesco, Casalmaggiore, Colorno, and Sabbioneta, a UNESCO World Heritage city.
Georgica is above all a showcase of agricultural biodiversity: ancient fruit varieties, ancient grains, roses and rare plants, typical products, and wines from the region. Alongside floriculture and the market of agricultural producers, there are demonstrations of traditional crafts — wrought iron work, the creation of ceramic ocarinas, wicker weaving — and a small farm with farmyard animals, much loved by children.
The food and wine aspect is not lacking, with tastings, selected food trucks, and a particular focus on bread and ancient grains. The festival's formula intertwines commerce and culture: the Dialogues in Golena and meetings with the Custodians of Biodiversity bring experts in agriculture, ecology, and gastronomy to the stage.
A distinctive feature of Georgica is the boat trips on the Po, with guided excursions by boat to the riverside villages, and a rich program of activities for families. Each edition proposes a different theme that links the river to culture, imagination, and human labor, making the Great River not just a backdrop but a true protagonist of the festival.
The XII edition of Georgica was held on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, 2026, on the banks of the Po, between the Municipalities of Gualtieri and Guastalla. This year's theme, "the river as a place of imagination", was inspired by the philosopher Gaston Bachelard's reflection on water as a substance capable of generating dreams, intertwining literary and cinematic visions of the Great River.
The edition brought together over 250 selected exhibitors and involved a wide network of riverside Municipalities in Emilia-Romagna, Parma, and Lombardy, with the addition of the UNESCO city of Sabbioneta. The festival's classic elements were confirmed: the biodiversity market exhibition, demonstrations of traditional crafts, the small farm, food trucks, and food and wine tastings.
