The non-competitive walk through the castles, woods, and vineyards of the Luretta Valley
The Gazzola Seven Castles March is one of the most beloved non-competitive running events in the Piacenza area. It is held in the Municipality of Gazzola, in the province of Piacenza, in the westernmost part of Emilia-Romagna, in the hilly area where the Val Trebbia meets the Val Luretta. It is a free-pace march, open to everyone, of national and international character: there is no stopwatch or ranking, but the pleasure of walking together through nature, history, and landscapes.
The event offers two routes, both starting from Gazzola's Town Hall Square:
Both routes cross fascinating places such as the Gazzola Castle, the Momeliano Castle, and the area of the former Momeliano gunpowder factory, normally closed to the public. Along the way, you will encounter ancient 14th-century watchtowers, recently restored, as well as vineyards, fields, and small bodies of water typical of the Piacenza hilly landscape.
The march is organized by the Polisportiva VII Castelli of Gazzola, involving local schools and in collaboration with FIASP (Italian Federation of Amateurs Sports for All). Over a hundred volunteers ensure medical assistance, refreshments along the routes, showers, and parking. At the end of the walk, participants can taste local typical products, including local wines and honey, in a festive atmosphere that strengthens the bond between sport, nature, and tradition.
In recent years, the Gazzola Seven Castles March has seen constant growth in participation, involving thousands of walkers from all over the region and beyond. It has become a regular fixture of the Piacenza spring, combining outdoor sports activities with the discovery of the historical and environmental heritage of the Luretta Valley.
The 2026 edition, the twenty-second in the history of the event, was held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, with free and staggered starts from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM from Gazzola's Town Hall Square.
The two routes of 6 km (suitable for families and school groups) and 13 km (for more trained runners) were confirmed, both winding through dirt roads, woods, vineyards, and the area of the former Momeliano gunpowder factory, passing by Gazzola Castle and Momeliano Castle.
The edition marked an absolute participation record with 2,838 registered participants, confirming the march as one of the most followed amateur running events in the Piacenza area.
