The great icons of music told in the courtyard of the Malatestiano Castle
Gatteo Calling is a cultural review that, for several seasons, has enlivened summer evenings in the charming courtyard of the Malatestiano Castle of Gatteo, in the heart of the Municipality of Gatteo, in the province of Forlì-Cesena (Emilia-Romagna). The idea is simple and powerful: to bring writers, journalists, and storytellers to the stage who tell the stories of the great icons of rock, pop, and everything that has made millions of people dream and dance, in a continuous interweaving of words and music.
The review was born from the idea of Emiliano Visconti, of the Rapsodia Association, who is its creator and one of the regular storytellers. Gatteo Calling is a true experiment in contemporary storytelling: to tell a story, it moves between different linguistic registers, alternating oral narration, videos projected on a large screen, and listening to live performances. Each evening is entrusted to a different author, who, with their personal stylistic signature and background, tells the story of a musician, a band, or a musical genre that is among the most iconic of the twentieth century and our time.
The program alternates international and Italian music names: from rock legends like Bob Dylan to singer-songwriters, from the vocal experiments of Demetrio Stratos to global phenomena like K-Pop. Each event is a small show in itself, where the written word dialogues with song and image, returning to the audience not only the biography of an artist but also the atmosphere, emotions, and culture of an era.
The setting is the Malatestiano Castle, an ancient fortress that dominates the center of Gatteo: an intimate and secluded location, perfect for summer outdoor evenings. The shows generally start at 9:15 PM and admission is free, in full coherence with the event's educational and popular spirit. Gatteo Calling is now one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Gatteo summer, capable of attracting a loyal audience of the curious, music enthusiasts, and readers.
For 2026 too, the Gatteo Calling review enlivens the summer evenings in the courtyard of the Malatestiano Castle of Gatteo, in the province of Forlì-Cesena. The event calendar of the Municipality of Gatteo confirms two evenings of the program, both at 9:15 PM and with free admission.
As tradition dictates, each event entrusts a different storyteller with the tale of a musical icon or universe, through words, projections, and live listening sessions.
The complete program of the review, which usually includes four evenings, will be announced by the Rapsodia Association and the Municipality of Gatteo in the weeks preceding the event. The two dates above are those currently confirmed by the municipal event calendar.
Gatteo is located along the Via Emilia, in the province of Forlì-Cesena. By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway (Cesena Nord or Rimini Nord exits). By train, the reference station is Gatteo a Mare or Savignano sul Rubicone on the Bologna-Ancona line. The Malatestiano Castle is located in the center of the municipal capital.
The evenings start at 9:15 PM. Admission is free, subject to availability of seats in the Castle courtyard.
As this is an evening outdoor event, it is advisable to arrive a little early to find a seat and bring a light jacket for late summer evenings.
