About Garda Summer Music

On Salò's lakefront, on the Brescia side of Garda, the international violin festival named after Gasparo Bertolotti da Salò (1540-1609), the luthier who was among the fathers of the modern violin, returns. Throughout the summer, between Piazza Duomo and the MuSa cloister, strings and chamber orchestras liven up the city with high-level concerts, some of which are free admission. A historic review, founded in 1960, that makes Salò one of the Italian capitals of string music.

A festival in the name of Gasparo da Salò

The Garda Summer Music is one of the longest-running classical reviews in Lombardy: its first edition dates back to 1960. The festival is named after Gasparo Bertolotti da Salò (1540-1609), a luthier native to the town and considered among the main creators of the modern violin. It is no coincidence that the event is primarily an international violin festival, which brings renowned performers and chamber orchestras to the Gulf of Salò.

The concert venues

The evenings take place in the symbolic locations of the historic center of Salò, in the province of Brescia: the scenic Piazza Duomo, overlooking the late Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata, and the intimate MuSa cloister, the city museum. The review traditionally opens with a preview on the water, aboard the sailboat Circe moored on the lakefront, a suggestive way to inaugurate the musical summer with the lake as a backdrop.

A tradition that looks to the youth

Alongside the great names of international concert music, the Garda Summer Music gives space to young orchestras and emerging soloists, in a program that alternates Baroque, Classical, and Romantic repertoire. The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Salò together with the Pro Loco and is part of the rich calendar of Salò Estate, which brings over a hundred events between music, sports, and culture to the city from April to September.

Why it's worth the trip

Listening to a string quartet or a violin concert in the square of one of the pearls of the Brescia Riviera, with the facade of the Duomo illuminated and the lake air, is an experience that combines high music and the beauty of the places. For those visiting the riviera, it is an opportunity to discover Salò beyond the tourist postcard.

Garda Summer Music — edition 2026

The 67th edition of the Garda Summer Music opens on July 16, 2026, with a preview aboard the sailboat Circe on the lakefront and continues until August 8 with concerts between the MuSa cloister and Piazza Duomo, hosting youth orchestras and international violin soloists.

The 67th edition of the Garda Summer Music enlivens Salò from July 16 to August 8, 2026, confirming the festival's violinistic vocation dedicated to Gasparo da Salò.

The program alternates prestigious venues and ensembles, with concerts spread throughout the historic center and the now traditional opening on the water.
