The theatre festival of the Teatro dei Batù in Fubine Monferrato
Fubine Ridens is the theatre festival of Fubine Monferrato, a small town in the Province of Alessandria nestled among the hills of the Monferrato region in Piedmont. For nearly thirty years, the event has enlivened the town's autumn and winter evenings with a season of performances running from October through April, bringing audiences together to laugh, be moved, and connect.
The heart of the festival is the Teatro dei Batù on Via Longo, an intimate and welcoming space that has long been the focal point of local cultural life. Here, the resident company and numerous guest troupes from across Piedmont take turns on stage, offering a calendar that blends witty comedies, one-act plays, dialect theatre, and prose.
The festival is promoted and organized by the Compagnia Teatrale Fubinese, a local group led by director and playwright Massimo Brusasco, under the patronage of the Municipality of Fubine Monferrato. The company does more than just host performances: it is a central player in the season, staging its own productions, often written and directed by Brusasco.
The program is designed for a broad audience of all ages, with a focus on comedy and popular theatre. Evenings range from comedies in Italian to plays in the Piedmontese dialect, and from one-act plays to ensemble pieces, always maintaining the lighthearted and familiar tone that has made the festival a success. Events are generally held on Sunday afternoons or weekend evenings, with a single, accessible ticket price.
Fubine Monferrato is part of the Monferrato region, a hilly landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its vineyards and historic villages. An evening at the theatre here is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont, far from the main tourist circuits, amidst wine cellars, traditional infernot, and local food and wine culture.
The 29th edition of the Fubine Ridens theatre festival took place at the Teatro dei Batù in Fubine Monferrato (AL) throughout the 2025-2026 season, from October to April, with events held on weekends. Organized by the Compagnia Teatrale Fubinese with the patronage of the Municipality, it featured both the resident company and various guest troupes from Piedmont.
Highlights from the program included: L'ispettore by the Compagnia di Prosa di Quattordio, Personalità disturbate by the Alessandria-based company Kiss'à, La banda dei quattro by the L'lantarnin da ranaté company from Trino Vercellese, and the Compagnia Teatrale Fubinese's own production Meno male che non c'è nessuno, written and directed by Massimo Brusasco, which closed the season on April 18 and 19.
The 29th edition program included additional dates between October 2025 and March 2026 (October 18, November 15, December 6, 2025; January 18 and March 1, 2026); titles and times for each evening were indicated on the respective flyers.
The closing show Meno male che non c'è nessuno by the Compagnia Teatrale Fubinese, directed by Massimo Brusasco, performed on April 18 and 19, with the Saturday show completely sold out. Also noteworthy were the brilliant one-act plays presented by the guest companies from Piedmont.
