About Fried Peppers Festival

Every Ferragosto, in the Santa Maria a Quadrano district of Gildone, the Fried Peppers Festival accompanies the feast of the Madonna dell'Assunta. Fried peppers, served with fresh local bread and good wine, are the signature dish of one of the three most important festivals in the town, in the province of Campobasso. An event that combines devotion and gastronomic tradition in the heart of a Molise summer, coinciding with the feast of the Madonna delle Grazie.

Gildone's Ferragosto

In Gildone, a village in the province of Campobasso (Molise), August 15th is one of the most cherished days of the year. The Fried Peppers Festival is indeed closely linked to the feast of the Madonna dell'Assunta and is among the three most important celebrations in the town, so much so that it is also known as the "devotion of the peppers".

The Feast Dish

The stars of the show are the fried peppers, served with fresh local bread and accompanied by regional wine. A simple, rustic combination that, on Ferragosto, becomes a symbol of conviviality and community identity. The festival takes place in the Santa Maria a Quadrano district, coinciding with the feast of the Madonna delle Grazie.

Between Table and Tradition

Like many Molise festivals, in Gildone too, the gastronomic dimension is inseparable from the devotional one: people eat together, in the squares and districts, in the spirit of a tradition passed down from generation to generation. The Fried Peppers Festival thus completes the calendar of Gildone's major festivals, alongside the renowned Bread Festival in June.
