The gastronomic and charity festival of Marruci, in Pizzoli
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Fraternity Festival is a summer highlight that brings the small village of Marruci, in the municipality of Pizzoli (L'Aquila province), to life in the heart of Abruzzo. Originally a local food festival, it has grown over the years into a well-established tradition. For over twenty-five editions, it has brought together families, young people, and volunteers around the values of fraternity, hospitality, and solidarity.
The event is promoted by the Associazione Fraternità ONLUS, a non-profit secular volunteer organization founded in 1995, active throughout the Pizzoli area and the province of L'Aquila. The association works year-round to promote the value of fraternity among individuals and peoples, engaging the community, schools, and institutions. The festival is the most visible expression of its commitment and its primary fundraising occasion.
The heart of the festival lies in its food stalls, which typically open in the early evening, offering the flavors of Abruzzese and Apennine cuisine: homemade pappardelle, penne all'amatriciana, pecora alla cottora (traditional stewed mutton), grilled sausages, bruschetta, French fries, and fried pizzas. After dinner, the evenings continue with live music, ballroom dancing to the sound of the accordion, and entertainment designed for all ages. There is also a charity raffle, which contributes to the fundraising efforts.
What makes the Fraternity Festival special is its charitable mission. The funds raised during the evenings are donated to various solidarity projects: a portion goes to cancer research and support for oncology patients, a portion to local welfare initiatives, a portion to development projects in the Global South, and a portion to support the association's ongoing activities. In this way, every dish served and every raffle ticket sold becomes a concrete gesture of help.
The festival takes place in the village of Marruci, a small hamlet that fills with visitors from Pizzoli and neighboring towns for the occasion. It is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of inland Abruzzo, nestled in the mountains of the L'Aquila area, and to experience the community spirit typical of Apennine villages, where the table becomes a tool for meeting and sharing.
The Associazione Fraternità ONLUS has not yet announced the official dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Fraternity Festival in Marruci, Pizzoli. This gastronomic and charity festival usually takes place in August, featuring stalls with traditional Abruzzese dishes, live music, ballroom dancing, and a charity raffle supporting cancer research and welfare projects. The full program will be published by the organization closer to the event.
The Fraternity Festival is held in the village of Marruci, in the municipality of Pizzoli (AQ), in Abruzzo. Marruci is accessible by car from Pizzoli and L'Aquila, a short distance from the SS80 state road.
Food stalls generally open in the early evening; the evenings continue with music and dancing. Admission to the festival area is free; you pay for food at the stalls and for charity raffle tickets.
