A festival that has shaped the history of the Sabina summer

FrassoMusica is one of the longest-running music festivals in the Rieti area: in 2026, it celebrates its 36th edition, a rare milestone for an event born and raised in a village of just a few hundred inhabitants. The Municipality of Frasso Sabino, located in the heart of the Lazio Sabina, hosts a full week of evening concerts every year, drawing audiences from across the Tiber Valley and neighboring towns.

The formula has remained unchanged: live music every night, free admission, an open-air stage in the castle square, and a deliberately eclectic program that spans from rock to opera, and from tango to Southern Italian folk, without ever limiting itself to a single genre.

The castle square as a natural stage

The heart of the festival is the castle square of Frasso Sabino, an intimate space that becomes a small open-air theater in the summer. The village's acoustics, the ancient walls, and the audience seated just a few meters from the artists create an atmosphere quite different from large-scale festivals: here, the connection with the musicians is direct, often accompanied by introductions, stories, and discussions with the performers themselves. The final evening traditionally moves to the belvedere square, overlooking the rolling hills of the Sabina landscape.

A diverse program

Each edition features a variety of genres, one per night, without pause. Recent lineups have included:

• rock and pop bands with original repertoires and covers of international classics;
• evenings of contemporary opera buffa and classical opera, with soloists and introductions to the works;
• Argentine tango featuring vocals, bandoneón, guitar, and dance couples;
• swing and Dixieland music;
• Italian singer-songwriter music and tributes to legendary artists;
• folk music and oral traditions from Southern Italy;
• evenings dedicated to young local musicians.

All concerts begin at 9 PM, with free admission, and continue throughout the duration of the festival.

Organizers

FrassoMusica is promoted by the Municipality of Frasso Sabino in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Frasso Sabino and the PF Association, with the support of the Fondazione Varrone and the Lazio Region. It is a model of an event built on local volunteerism, where the artistic direction maintains a professional standard while remaining deeply rooted in the village community.

Frasso Sabino and the Sabina region

Frasso Sabino is located just a few kilometers from Poggio Moiano and Monteleone Sabino, in an area renowned for its Sabina PDO extra virgin olive oil, perched medieval villages, and the astronomical observatory located within the municipality. The concert evening is often the perfect excuse for a stroll through the historic center and dinner at local trattorias, where the cuisine follows the seasons: handmade pasta, grilled meats, cheeses, and, of course, the new oil in autumn.

You come for the music, but also for the atmosphere of summer evenings in the square, with locals walking from their homes to join in and chat late into the night. All this without a ticket, in one of the quietest and least touristy areas of Lazio.
