About Frasassi SkyRace

The Frasassi SkyRace is the mountain running race that every September transforms the village of San Vittore delle Chiuse, part of Genga (province of Ancona, Marche), into one of the Italian capitals of skyrunning. With start and finish in the shadow of the Romanesque Abbey of San Vittore, athletes tackle technical trails, steep climbs, and panoramic passages in the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Natural Park. Three distances are available: the 21 km SkyRace, the 11 km Mini Sky Trail, and the non-competitive 11 km Walk.

Skyrunning in the Marche Apennines

Over the years, the Frasassi SkyRace has become the symbol of skyrunning in central Italy. The event takes place in San Vittore delle Chiuse, a picturesque hamlet in the Municipality of Genga, in the province of Ancona, and is run entirely in the heart of the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Natural Park, one of the most spectacular protected areas in the Marche region, world-renowned for its Frasassi Caves.

The start and finish are set in the magical setting of the Abbey of San Vittore delle Chiuse, a jewel of Marche Romanesque architecture overlooking the Sentino river. It is in this scenario that, edition after edition, hundreds of athletes from all over Italy and abroad gather.

Three races for every type of runner

The sporting program is divided into three distances designed to welcome both mountain specialists and outdoor enthusiasts:

  • Frasassi SkyRace — 21 km with 1350 meters of positive elevation gain: the queen race, valid as ITRA & UTMB Qualifier, included in the Italian FISKY calendar and awarding the absolute regional Marche titles.
  • Frasassi Trail (Mini Sky) — 11 km with 650 meters of elevation gain: a shorter but intense race, sponsored by EPS ASI and included in the shared FIDAL calendar.
  • Frasassi Walk — 11 km with 650 meters of elevation gain in a non-competitive format, for those who want to enjoy the park's trails at their own pace.

A technical and scenic route

The SkyRace course alternates fast sections, steep climbs, descents through the woods, passages carved into the rock, historically rich views, a small ford, and exposed, highly technical sections. A mix that requires strong legs, a clear head, and a good dose of mountain experience, rewarded by breathtaking views of the gorges and the Marche Apennine ridges.

More than a race: Borgo Avventura

The Frasassi SkyRace is part of the Borgo Avventura initiative promoted by the Municipality of Genga, which allows participants to run freely and safely on the park's trails. Around the start area, there's more than just sport: exhibitors, local typical products, and the warmth of the community make the day a complete experience for athletes and their companions. Participant safety is guaranteed by dozens of volunteers supported by the Alpine Rescue, Civil Protection, medical staff, and alpine guides.
