The largest street boulder gathering in Europe, amidst the alleys of Serra San Quirico and the trails of the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Park
The Frasassi Climbing Festival is one of Europe's most important outdoor events dedicated to climbing, bouldering, and nature. Every late August, it transforms Serra San Quirico, a small medieval village in the province of Ancona, and the surrounding Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Natural Park into a large gathering of climbers, mountain enthusiasts, and outdoor lovers. It's not just a competition: it's a widespread celebration that blends sport, landscape, and social interaction, attracting over ten thousand visitors and more than a thousand athletes.
The heart of the event is the Street Boulder Contest, considered the largest street boulder gathering on the continent. Climbers ascend without ropes directly on the architectural elements of the village: stone walls, arches, balconies, pillars, and gateways of Serra San Quirico's historic center become routes to be solved with strength and balance. It's a spectacular and accessible discipline for everyone, bringing climbing out of the gym and into the daily life of the town, under the eyes of the public.
Alongside street boulder, the program is very rich. There's the Frasassi Challenge, a multi-day competition that rewards those who accumulate the most ascents on the park's cliffs, and there are contests for younger participants. But the festival also thrives on everything related to the rock: sessions of yoga and AcroYoga, slackline workshops, injury prevention workshops, shoe testing, talks and book presentations, trekking excursions with CAI guides, and caving trips in the Frasassi caves (Grotta Bella, Grotta del Fiume). Evenings come alive with live music, high-altitude theater performances, and DJ sets.
The setting is one of the most evocative landscapes in the Marche region: the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi is a natural park made of limestone walls, rivers, and the famous hypogeum complex of the Frasassi Caves. Participating in the festival means discovering a corner of the Marche Apennines made of villages, trails, and rock, experiencing Serra San Quirico during one of its liveliest weeks of the year. The event was born from a passion for mountains and climbing and aims to become Italy's leading outdoor festival.
The 2026 program confirms the festival's winning formula: the Street Boulder Contest through the village alleys, the Frasassi Challenge on the park's cliffs, and a dense network of side activities. Over 1,350 athletes, more than 10,000 visitors, and about thirty outdoor industry brands are expected. Registration (โฌ20 online, โฌ25 on-site) grants access to all activities, exhibition areas, and services. Trekking excursions with CAI nature guides and caving trips in the caves complete the offer.
Serra San Quirico (AN) is located along the Strada Statale 76 della Val d'Esino, easily reachable by car from Ancona, Jesi, and Fabriano. Serra San Quirico train station is on the RomeโAncona line. Dedicated parking, camper areas, and a shuttle bus service are available during the festival.
Festival registration costs โฌ20 per person online (with official t-shirt guaranteed, payment via PayPal or card) or โฌ25 on-site at the Info Point. Registration grants access to all activities: Street Boulder Contest, Frasassi Challenge, yoga and slackline workshops, evening events, services (restrooms, parking, camper areas, shuttle), and the final prize draw. Caving activities are included but require booking at the Info Point; trekking excursions must be booked separately through the Park's website.
The Info Point and secretariat are open from August 27th to 30th, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Sunday until 2:00 PM).
