An evening of youth music and inclusion in the heart of Alessandria
The Fly Festival is one of the freshest events on the Alessandria calendar in Piedmont: an evening entirely dedicated to youth music and inclusion, transforming Piazza Santa Maria di Castello, in the heart of the historic center, into a massive open-air stage. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of a community festival designed by young people, for young people.
The most beautiful feature of the Fly Festival is its origin: the event is conceived and built by a group of high school students from the Province of Alessandria, who manage the artistic direction and organization alongside local institutions. It is not a top-down festival, but a participatory experience where young people become the protagonists, from the stage to the production.
The evening weaves together different forms of expression: dance shows, live performances by emerging artists with original tracks, and a final DJ set that keeps the square dancing until late at night. Alongside the music, there is always a food & beverage area with food trucks, allowing attendees to enjoy the event as a social occasion. The common thread is the well-being and inclusion of young people, themes addressed not through rhetoric, but through what is closest to them: music.
The Fly Festival is the most visible public moment of broader initiatives promoted by the Province of Alessandria. The first edition (2025) was born within the "Re-Play 2.0: Rethinking Sport" project, while the 2026 edition launched the new "FormaMentisALessandria: Shape Your Well-being" project, dedicated to the physical, mental, and social health of over a thousand local youths. This continuity has made the festival a highly anticipated appointment in the capital city.
The setting of Piazza Santa Maria di Castello, one of the most evocative squares in Alessandria, gives the festival a precise identity: contemporary music and a young audience meeting within the city's heritage. In case of bad weather, the event moves to the Casa di Quartiere, ensuring the evening goes ahead regardless.
The 2026 edition of the Fly Festival inaugurated the new project of the Province of Alessandria, FormaMentisALessandria: Shape Your Well-being, a program dedicated to the physical, mental, and social health of young people. The square came alive with the food & beverage truck area from 8:30 PM and performances from 9:30 PM, alternating dance, live music, and DJ sets until late at night. The event, sponsored by the Municipality of Alessandria, confirmed the winning formula of the first edition, using music as a tool to talk to young people about inclusion and well-being.
