The village of Tuscia dresses in flowers amidst convivial long tables, music, and storytelling
Every year in June, Flowers at the Window and Dinners in the Square marks the beginning of summer in Vetralla, a village in the province of Viterbo nestled along the Via Cassia, at the foot of the Cimini Mountains. For about ten days, spread over two weekends, the historic center is covered in floral arrangements: residents, shopkeepers, and nurserymen decorate windows, balconies, alleys, and corners of the town, often following a common theme that invites visitors to rediscover objects and memories of rural tradition. The result is a widespread trail that turns the village into an open-air stage, perfect for exploring on foot.
The convivial heart of the festival is the dinners in the square: long tables set up outdoors in the squares and along the streets of the historic center, managed by local associations. The tables are filled with traditional dishes from the Tuscia region, prepared with local products, in evenings that revive the ancient pleasure of dining together. Fraschette (traditional taverns), food stalls, and tastings complete the offering, accompanied by music and entertainment until late at night.
During the same period, the event intertwines with The Literary Square โ Bread and Stories, a festival promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Vetralla. It brings authors, journalists, and national cultural figures to Piazza Umberto I, in front of the Town Hall and the Cathedral. The meetings are accompanied by tastings of local products, in a successful dialogue between literature and food and wine that has become one of the hallmarks of the Vetralla event.
Curated by the Pro Loco Vetralla APS with the patronage of the Municipality, the event has surpassed thirty editions and is now one of the most anticipated dates on the Tuscia calendar. Created to recover local traditions and restore a sense of community to the town, it attracts numerous visitors every year from neighboring villages, Viterbo, and Rome, drawn by the festive atmosphere and the beauty of the blooming historic center.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover Vetralla and its territory: the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea, the Town Hall, the medieval churches, and, in the surrounding area, the Etruscan necropolises and the forests of the Cimini Mountains. We are in the heart of Tuscia, a land of extra virgin olive oil, Cimini hazelnuts, and local wines: flavors that punctuate the festival's long tables. One more reason to plan a visit to this area of Lazio, still far from mass tourism.
For the 2026 edition, the historic center of Vetralla dressed up for ten days: floral displays on windows and in alleys, taverns and long tables along the streets, markets, music, and evening entertainment. The dinners in the square, organized by local associations with the support of the Department of Culture, featured traditional Tuscia dishes. In parallel, the 'Bread and Stories' Literary Square hosted twelve meetings in Piazza Umberto I with writers, poets, and journalists, accompanied by tastings of local products.
Inauguration โ Friday, June 12, 4:30 PM, Piazza Umberto I, with city authorities and the award ceremony for the literary competition.
