The festival of Our Lady of the Rosary between districts and traditions
The Festa Patronale della Beata Vergine del Rosario is the most important celebration in Bellinzago Lombardo, a municipality in the Martesana area, in the province of Milan. The patron saint is celebrated on the first Sunday of September, at the end of a week full of cultural, musical, and sporting events and dancing evenings, organised by the municipal administration together with the parish, the Pro Loco (local tourist board), and local associations.
The most heartfelt moment is the procession on Saturday evening, which carries the statue of the Madonna through the streets of the town. On this occasion, the residents of Bellinzago decorate the exteriors of their homes with the colours of their respective contrada (district), and the scent of paciarella, the typical local cake, spreads from every house. A ritual that blends religious devotion and a strong sense of local identity.
Among the most beloved events are the palo della cuccagna (greased pole), an ancient game of popular tradition, the children's market in the municipal park, and the presence of fairground rides in the area. These moments animate the festival and involve both adults and children, making it a highly anticipated event for the entire community.
Included in the calendar of events for the Martesana, the patronal festival tells the story of Bellinzago Lombardo's identity, between farming tradition, devotion, and district life, just a few kilometres from Milan.
The 2026 edition of the Festa Patronale della Beata Vergine del Rosario is scheduled, as per tradition, for the first Sunday of September in Bellinzago Lombardo. The week of festivities includes cultural, musical, and sporting events and dancing evenings, organised by the Municipality with the parish, the Pro Loco, and the associations.
The detailed programme will be published by the Municipality in the preceding days.
