The Ancient Festival Market of Geese and Boots in the historic center of Portogruaro
Around November 30th, the day of Saint Andrew the Apostle, patron saint of the city, Portogruaro (Province of Venice) renews its most important event: the Fiera di Sant'Andrea, also known as the Antica Sagra Mercato delle Oche e degli Stivali. It is one of the most cherished historical fairs in Eastern Veneto, capable of transforming the entire historic center into a large experiential path.
The fair attracts over four hundred exhibitors from all over Italy, spread along the streets and squares of the center: crafts, agri-food products, curiosities, and stalls of all kinds. Alongside the market, a dense calendar of over thirty events enlivens the days with street performances, fire-eaters and jugglers, concerts, book presentations, art exhibitions, sports tournaments, and workshops for families.
The name of the fair has its roots in the ancient mercantile tradition linked to geese and footwear. Even today, the city's restaurants and taverns offer goose-based menus and specialties, such as the famous risotto. The funfair is set up in Piazza Castello, while along the Lemene river, excursions with traditional boats continue, and children liven up the "Strada dei Putei", the children's charity market.
Promoted by the Municipality of Portogruaro with the support of local associations and economic categories, the Fiera di Sant'Andrea is much more than a market: it is the moment when the "little Venice" of Eastern Veneto celebrates its identity, its roots, and its patron saint, in a festive atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over the region.
The 2026 edition of the Fiera di Sant'Andrea renews a centuries-old tradition around the feast day of Portogruaro's patron saint, November 30th. The event typically takes place over several days distributed between the last weekend of November and the first days of December, in the city's historic center.
The detailed 2026 program, with dates, times, exhibitors, and side events, will be published by the Municipality of Portogruaro and the fair organization in the preceding weeks. For information: [email protected].
